Teruel is a small city in Centre-East Spain, South of Zaragoza, and halfway between Madrid and Valencia. Traditionally, Teruel was a city off the main tourist routes and generally its rich heritage was hardly taken into account. Nevertheless, a few years ago and under the slogan “Teruel también existe” (Teruel also exists), the city experienced a deep change restoring its landmarks, cleaning the bright bricks of its walls and roofs, and becoming again the tiny jewel of the Mudejar Art in Spain which it was in the 13th Century, during the last stages of the Reconquista.

If you go to this city, you will be haunted by the old legends. The best-known are the legends about the 'Teruel's Lovers' and the story about the setting of the two most emblematic Towers of the city: San Salvador y San Martín. These stories have impregnated the city with an atmosphere of fairy tale and of romantic place. Both, The “Mausoleo de los Amantes” and the Towers, are well worth a visit. In addition to enjoy watching artistic carving and the Mudejar buildings, you will be able to understand the social, economic and political context where these stories were originated and developed.

Walking through the narrow streets of the Old Town and Torico Square can be a charming experience. It is important to finish the visit going into a store or a bar where you can taste a piece of typical cured 'Ibérico' ham with a nice glass of wine.
